Seattle public official Shanee Colston refused to resign from her role as co-chair of a King County Regional Homelessness Authority subcommittee, despite a request from the agency's head. During a Zoom meeting on May 3, Colston defended the nomination of registered sex offender Thomas Whitaker and berated a fellow board member who opposed him. The agency opposes Whitaker's nomination and has asked Colston to resign following her outburst. Whitaker was convicted of raping minors on three occasions. Colston's behavior was deemed unacceptable by the authority, which is funded by state taxpayers and federal grants, and community concerns have been raised about the nomination of a registered sex offender for the Continuum of Care Board.
