Supernatural creator Eric Kripke initially pitched a horror show about a reporter investigating urban legends, but later adapted the idea to feature two brothers traveling and exploring such myths. The show only found its true identity after Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles were cast as the leading duo, Sam and Dean Winchester.
