NY Christian University FIRES Two Workers for Using Pronouns in Emails!
19/05/2023

Two residence hall directors at a Christian university in upstate New York, Raegan Zelaya and Shua Wilmot, have been fired from their jobs for refusing to remove their preferred pronouns in their email signatures. The university requested that the pronouns be removed, but the pair refused, leading to their dismissal. Houghton University is affiliated with a conservative branch of the Methodist Church and has recently closed a multicultural student center, an environmental sustainability program, and revoked recognition of an on-campus LGBTQ club. The firings have sparked protests on campus, with debates over gender and sexuality taking place in other faith-based organizations.
