In an emotional scene, Castiel declared his love for Dean, becoming a queer icon that fans had embraced. Actor Jared Padalecki, who played Sam Winchester in the show, was also moved to tears during the episode and apologized to fans for not tweeting more during the broadcast. Though fans mourned the loss of their beloved character, they expressed gratitude towards Collins for bringing Castiel to life and are hoping for a possible resurrection in the finale.
